4 Signs Your AC Blower Motor Is About to Fail in New Ulm, TX

It’s midsummer in New Ulm, TX, and you’re trying to beat the heat by cranking up your AC. Suddenly, the blower motor starts making a weird noise, and you know it’s only a matter of time before your AC fails, leaving you sweltering in the Texas heat. If this sounds like a situation you want to avoid, read on for four signs your AC blower motor is about to fail.

1. Strange Sounds Coming From the Blower Motor

If your blower motor starts making strange noises like squealing, grinding, or rumbling, it’s definitely on its way out. Bearings that fail or have failed cause these sounds, and if left unchecked, will cause the motor to seize up entirely and degrade your indoor air quality.

2. The Blower Motor Won’t Turn On

If you try turning on your AC and the blower motor won’t start, it’s time for a service call. This could be due to a failed capacitor, a common issue with older motors.

3. The Blower Motor Runs Hot

Another sign that your blower motor will fail is if it runs hot to the touch. This could be due to several issues but is most likely caused by a buildup of dirt and dust on the motor’s coils. If this isn’t cleaned off, it’ll cause the motor to overheat and eventually fail.

4. The Blower Motor Won’t Shut Off

If your blower motor won’t shut off, even when it has reached the thermostat temperature, it could be due to a faulty relay switch or a short in the motor itself. It indicates that it’s time for a replacement.

Replacing a Bad Blower Motor

If you notice any of these signs, call Davis Air Conditioning & Heating to diagnose and possibly replace your blower motor before it fails. AC blower motors are not particularly difficult to replace, but it’s a job best left to a professional. Our qualified technicians will be happy to take care of it for you.
