Suspect Your Ductwork Needs a Cleaning? It Does if You Answer Yes to Any of These 3 Questions
While it’s debatable whether you need to schedule professional ductwork cleaning or a regular basis to improve the energy-efficiency of your home, there are three occasions when it is a good idea to have ducts cleaned.
Is There Too Much Dust in My Home?
When ducts become clogged with dirt or dust to such an extent that dust is released into the home through supply registers, it can be time for a professional cleaning. A significant amount of dust can make the HVAC less energy-efficient, as well as contribute to indoor air quality problems, such as asthma, COPD and other issues.
Do I Have Mold in My Ductwork?
If there is a substantial amount of mold in the ductwork, it’s time for a cleaning. This is especially true if there is mold on hard surfaces and heating and cooling components. Ductwork cleaning can remove much of the mold that has accumulated. However, if insulated air ducts are wet and moldy, the only way to permanently get rid of the mold is to remove the wet insulation.
Is There a Pest Infestation in My Home?
If the ductwork has become infested with insects or other pests, ductwork cleaning might help eliminate some of the problems caused by the infestation. Ductwork can accumulate organic matter that attracts pests. These pests contribute to health problems in the home by releasing contaminants in the air. Ductwork cleaning will clear out organic matter and can cut down on problems caused by the pests nesting and breeding in your ducts.
